Last Friday, our Early Years community came together to celebrate the first event of the school year—EY Sports Day! The excitement filled the air as children arrived proudly wearing their team colors, ready to cheer, play, and show their team spirit. Each team kicked off the day with lively banners and chants, setting the tone for a day full of energy and joy.

Although the rain kept us indoors, it certainly didn’t affect our spirits! Children, parents, and teachers all came together, showing wonderful enthusiasm and teamwork. The day was filled with laughter and cheers as everyone took part in a variety of games, thoughtfully designed by our EY Sports Team to meet the needs and interests of all, from our youngest to our parents.

Families joined in for friendly competitions and fun challenges, creating moments of connection and shared celebration. The highlight of the day, as always, was the much-anticipated Tug-of-War—a friendly yet spirited match where all adults, parents, and teachers alike joined the game to defend their team color! The cheers filled the room as the children excitedly supported their parents and teachers.

To wrap up the day, each team was recognized with special prizes, celebrating effort, participation, and team spirit—ensuring that no one was left behind.

Our Play, Share, and Care Sports Day truly embodied what our EY community stands for: friendship, cooperation, and a love for learning through play

Math Olympiad Participation

We are excited to share that 鶹ýl students from grades 2-9 participated in the American Math Olympiad (AMO). The AMO is a well-known math competition that challenges students to solve challenging problems while building their problem-solving and thinking skills. It’s a great opportunity for students to showcase their math abilities and creativity.

About the AMO Problems

AMO problems cover algebra, geometry, number patterns, and more. These problems focus on logical thinking and creative solutions instead of basic calculations. We are so proud of how hard our students worked and how much effort they put into solving these challenging questions.

Certificates and Recognition

The competition was held in November at the 鶹ýl Chonburi. Today, we handed out the students’ results and certificates during the morning announcements. It was wonderful to see their classmates cheering them on and celebrating their achievements. We are proud of all their hard work and can’t wait to see them continue to grow and succeed!

Grade 4 and 5 Students Unite for Survival Camp
Grade 4 and 5 students from 鶹ýl’s Chonburi and Bang Na campuses came together for their first-ever survival camp. Hosted at the Chonburi campus, the event aimed to teach students essential survival skills and then reinforce those skills by applying them to later activities. The camp challenged students to learn how to use available resources to build shelters, cook, and more, all while having fun.

Hands-On Activities and Teamwork
The day was filled with hands-on activities where students learned by doing. They practiced addressing injuries through role-playing scenarios and tied knots to build shelters using rope, bamboo, and tarps. They worked in teams to read different types of maps to solve problems, using this skill in a whole-campus scavenger hunt to find a missing word. When students were working on these activities, they took the lead in solving problems together, with teachers acting as facilitators. The camp also ended with an exciting lesson on building fires and cooking their own food. Students had so much fun throughout the day as they tackled new challenges.

Building Skills and Leadership
We were thrilled to see the students collaborate and support one another throughout the camp. They displayed impressive leadership, engineering, and survival skills while fostering teamwork and communication. The camp was a great opportunity for students to apply what they had just learned, reinforcing their skills through real-world activities. This memorable experience highlighted their ability to problem-solve, lead, and work together as a team, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts.

As part of our inquiry into the unit “Where We Are in Place and Time,” our students explored how different cultures are shaped by connections between people, comparing people from around the world, and various cultural expressions. To bring this learning to life, we recently hosted a special Show and Tell event where families shared traditional costumes and traditional snacks or dishes from their cultural heritage. Each class had its own table displaying these items, and students from the other classes were invited to explore the displays, ask questions, and learn about the significance of the items. This hands-on experience helped students deepen their understanding of cultural diversity and how traditions vary across the world.

To make the event even more special, we collaborated with our Music Teacher to incorporate music from the cultures represented in our classes. Students listened to traditional songs and even danced together, experiencing the rhythm and joy of cultural celebrations. The Show and Tell event were a wonderful way to wrap up our unit, giving students the opportunity to connect with one another and share parts of their culture. We, the Homeroom Teachers of Nursery, K1A, and K1B, are thankful for the amazing participation from families and the chance for students to celebrate and learn from the diverse backgrounds of their classmates. I changed geography and traditions as cultural influences on the lines of inquiry.

From the 18th to the 20th of September, 鶹ýl Bang Na Campus hosted its much-anticipated second annual Geo Bowl, a thrilling competition designed to test and celebrate students’ geography knowledge. The event spanned three engaging rounds, challenging students to identify continents, oceans, flags, capitals, landmarks, and more.

The Geo Bowl opened with high energy as participants in the first round demonstrated their skills in naming continents and oceans, a fundamental yet vital part of understanding our world. Students confidently pinpointed the seven continents and five oceans, laying the foundation for the tougher challenges ahead.

In the second round, the focus shifted to regional knowledge, particularly in ASEAN flags and Asian capital cities. Contestants also had to show their understanding of the world map, locating various countries and regions. This round not only required memorization but also a deeper understanding of geography’s connections to history and culture.

The competition reached its peak during the final round, which added a global perspective. Students had to identify world flags, correctly name capitals, and recognize well-known landmarks from around the world. A challenge on cardinal directions further tested their spatial awareness, requiring students to have a well-rounded geographic understanding.

As the event unfolded, three students rose to the top with their outstanding performances. Nandu claimed the 1st place prize with an impressive display of knowledge across all three rounds. Phop followed closely in 2nd place, while Sun secured the 3rd place spot with a solid finish.

Beyond the excitement and competition, the Geo Bowl provided a wonderful learning opportunity for students to expand their geographic knowledge while fostering collaboration and school spirit. It encouraged students to not only memorize facts but also understand the importance of geography in shaping global perspectives.

School Principal, Ms. Viki remarked, “The Geo Bowl is one of our most exciting academic events of the year. It’s a wonderful way to engage our students in learning about the world around them and to inspire curiosity about global cultures and landmarks. We’re so proud of all the participants for their hard work and enthusiasm.”

The Geo Bowl is just one of many ways 鶹ýl Bang Na Campus aims to promote critical thinking, global awareness, and teamwork among its students. The event serves as a reminder that geography is not only about maps and locations, but about understanding the relationships between people, places, and the world as a whole.

We look forward to seeing even more impressive displays of knowledge in next year’s Geo Bowl!

Songkran, Thailand’s most renowned festival, came alive at Wells Thong Lor with vibrant celebrations and joyful camaraderie. Students, teachers, and parents joined hands to honor Thai culture and mark the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year in a memorable and spirited manner.
The festivities commended with Wells students from diverse cultural backgrounds coming together to perform traditional Thai dances, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Thailand. Following this, the water ceremony took center stage, where students expressed their well wishes for their teachers by pouring water and jasmine petals over their hands, in accordance with Thai tradition.
But Songkran isn’t just about solemn ceremonies—it’s also a time to let loose and indulge in playful water fights. The dedicated support staff at Wells Thong Lor transformed the school playground into a lively water park, providing an array of exciting activities for everyone to enjoy.
From the exhilarating ‘slip n slide’ to the thrilling ‘water relay’ and the adventurous ‘monkey swing,’ there was no shortage of fun-filled moments for students and teachers alike. And of course, the highlight of the day was ‘the dunk,’ where students eagerly lined up for the chance to dunk their beloved teachers—an activity that proved to be a crowd favorite.

鶹ýl Bang Na recently underwent a pivotal milestone in its journey towards educational excellence with the synchronized evaluation visit by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). As an already authorized IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) school, this evaluation marked the comprehensive assessment for WASC accreditation, emphasizing the school’s commitment to holistic education and academic rigor.

Over the preceding year, Wells Bang Na has engaged in a rigorous process of self-study, meticulously examining every facet of its operations and educational practices. This included a thorough review of governance structures, organizational frameworks, curriculum delivery, student support systems, faculty development initiatives, and community engagement strategies. The objective was not just to meet the accreditation standards but to gain insight on what should be prioritized in the upcoming school years.

The evaluation visit served as an opportunity for external evaluators to scrutinize and validate the school’s self-assessment findings. They conducted interviews, observed classroom activities, analyzed documentation, and interacted with various stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of Wells Bang Na’s educational ethos and practices.

Community involvement and collaboration were also integral aspects of the evaluation process. The evaluators assessed the extent to which Wells Bang Na fosters partnerships with parents, local organizations, and other stakeholders to enrich the educational experience and contribute positively to the broader community.

As the evaluation visit concluded, the Wells Bang Na community eagerly awaits the feedback and recommendations from the IB and WASC evaluators. While the process has been rigorous, it has also been an affirming testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Welcoming the Year of the Dragon: Wells Thong Lo Campus Celebrates 2024 Lunar New Year!

At Wells Thong Lo Campus, the spirit of celebration and cultural appreciation was in full swing as we welcomed the auspicious Year of the Dragon during the 2024 Lunar New Year festivities. It was a joyous occasion marked by vibrant performances, traditional dances, and cherished moments shared among students, parents, and teachers.
The event commenced with mesmerizing performances by our Mandarin class students, who captivated the audience with their talent and dedication. The graceful fan dance presented by our lovely parents and their dance teacher added an elegant touch to the celebrations, filling the air with beauty and grace.
However, the true highlight of the day was the eagerly anticipated lion dance, a symbol of prosperity, good luck, and protection. Students were filled with excitement as they eagerly fed oranges to the lion, a traditional gesture believed to bring blessings and fortune in the new year.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our Grade 2 students for their exemplary hosting skills, as they eloquently shared the traditions of Chinese New Year in both Mandarin and English translations. Their efforts not only educated but also enriched the entire community, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
As the festivities continued, students immersed themselves in a variety of dog-themed games, embracing the symbolism of the zodiac animal for the year. Laughter and joy filled the air as friendships were forged and memories were made, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.
May the Year of the Dragon bring prosperity, happiness, and success to each and every one of you.
Happy Chinese New Year, and we eagerly await the return of our students after the break, ready to embark on new adventures and discoveries together.

-Ms. Gona, Principal
